Course Description

“Controversial topics in contemporary Christianity are discussed on the basis of Scripture and human reason. Topics include such issues as war, capital punishment, the role of women, science, and sexuality.”  (BLC Academic Catalog)

 

Course Objectives

1) Identify the various movements in Western social thought over the past 3 centuries which have had an impact on our present culture.

2) Learn the essential principles of Biblical interpretation (hermeneutics) and apply them accurately when analyzing the various social issues of our day.

3) Develop a Christian world-view which is based upon Scripture while living in a post-modern society.

4) Learn how to properly engage in dialogue and debate in the context of Christian love.

5) Understand the nature and interaction of the Two Kingdoms (spiritual and earthly) in which the Christian presently resides while in this life.

6) To better recognize the voice of Christ, our Good Shepherd, and follow His loving will for us.

7) To encourage an attitude of Christian stewardship regarding our intellect, talents and abilities that they may be used for the glory of God and the welfare of mankind.
