Description

This course introduces students to psychiatric and mental health nursing for individuals, families, and groups. Emphasis is on self-understanding in the student, medication and non-medication interventions, group interventions, therapeutic environments, and therapeutic communication within the nurse-client relationship. Commonly occurring mental health disorders are studied including addictive behaviors, personality disorders, thought disorders, and mood disorders. Clinical practicum experiences will occur in inpatient and community mental health care settings. This course is required for the B.S. in Nursing. Only students progressing in the Nursing major may register for this course.
