Course Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course a
student should be able to:
· Think
and plan creatively
· Explain
the process of audio visual media creations
· Identify
areas of communication where using the tools of visual communication are
appropriate and necessary.
·
Demonstrate entry-level proficiency in media
production skills including the operation of video cameras, microphones and
computer editing.
·
Understand the policies and procedures in
the use of BLC Studios and its equipment.
·
Produce several programs with a team of
students from your class and other production related classes.
Specifically
the student should be able to:
·
Perform pre-production setup in the Bethany
Studio for a show
·
Operate the studio cameras, field cameras, switcher,
Ghost sound board and DMX lighting
system with minimal assistance.
·
Record audio and create a CD.
·
Perform basic editing using Final Cut Pro
and create a DVD with iDVD.
·
Speak and present ideas professionally.
During the
course you will create the following projects:
·
An experimental audio CD.
·
An experimental video.
·
A narrative video.
Course Goals:
To
give a basic understanding of production elements and our studio. Every student should feel
comfortable in using any of the studio equipment. Each student should also have
a basic understanding of how to plan a production from inception to
distribution. This course supports Bethany's Liberal Arts program of study by
offering students general exposure to video production terms, techniques and
uses in society.
Supplies:
It is the
student's responsibility to provide all necessary supplies for video
production. This includes, but is not limited to, Mini-DV videotapes, CDs, and props. MINI-DV TAPES MUST BE SONY
BRAND.
Studio Hours:
The
studio is available for use the following hours:
Sunday:
1pm -midnight
Monday
-Thursday: 9am -midnight
Friday: 9am -5pm
Saturday: 1pm -5pm
During
the evenings a studio monitor is in place to assist you. In the event of an
emergency the monitor knows how to contact me, see them for assistance.
Grading:
Grades
will be based on the following:

15% Papers
This
is a hands-on course. Nothing is more important than class attendance! If
you must miss a class please let me know so we can make up the lesson. The
instructor reserves the right to lower grades based on attendance records.
If you miss more than three
sections of the course you will not receive credit and may receive a failing
grade.
