LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of BUSN 307, students will have been exposed to and understand
1. the process of communication in a variety of business and professional contexts, and
2. communication contexts and practices in other cultures.
Students will also have
3. applied specific reasoned, practical, and ethical business communication principles to
composing and delivering typical business and professional messages, and practiced business communication skills in both independent and collaborative situations.
COURSE CONTENT AND GOALS: Students who successfully complete BUSN 307 will have gained exposure to basic communication skills, as follows:
1. Apply a universal process to solve communication problems.
2. Learn specific writing techniques and organizational strategies to compose clear,
concise, and purposeful business messages.
3. Master effective speaking skills for getting ideas across to small and large groups.
4. Learn to be a valuable team player.
5. Work productively with the Internet and other rapidly evolving communication technologies.
6. Recognize the importance of nonverbal communication cues.
7. Value diversity and function with sensitivity in multicultural work environments.
8. Develop tools for meeting ethically challenging situations.

Student learning will be measured through e-mail communication, grammar/mechanics exercises, individual and team presentations, chapter quizzes and exams, and written exercises and assignments.
Student grades are based on an accumulation of points during the term. The final grade will be based on a scale of 100, with task percentages as shown below:
